Something to do with the Makuta Mata Nui theory:

Vezon encountered an alternate world where the Great Beings were constructing a giant robot called Makuta. His brother, Mata Nui, was plotting to undermine him.

Also, Mata Nui had Gravity beams in the prototype robot, but the prototype robot didn’t even work, and when Teridax used Gravity powers, he was using his Makuta ones.

Of course, Makuta aren’t necessarily bad people- Mata Nui would essentially be a Makuta that wasn’t put in a position where he could feel envy and thus go evil. He would also have been created by the GBs, as opposed to by another of their own.
