Question about the name BIONICLE?

The name BIONICLE is a play between the words Biological and Chronicle, and exists primarily to sell the product. Although it has existed in multiple circumstances in story, it appears as just another way to draw attention to itself.

Would there be any actual story significance to the word BIONICLE?
